What are Salsa Congresses?

For anyone that loves Salsa music & dance this is the ultimate event that you can attend. The "Salsa Congress" serves as a hub for the salsa community around the world and if you've never attended one we urge you to go and see what Salsa is truely all about.

What can I expect at a Congress?
First and foremost, expect to have a good time! Typically congresses run from Thursday to Sunday night, the largest ones might have an extended schedule that covers 6 or 7 days. The typical congress should offer most of the following events:

  • Workshops during the day from international & local instructors
  • Performances by international & local dancers
  • Evening parties which feature the above mentioned performances as well as music by well known DJ's
  • Lots of opportunities for social dancing
  • Accomodation & event pass packages
  • Shoe, music, video, & clothing vendors

Congress Tips
Here are some helpful tips to make your congress experience more enjoyable:

  • If you plan on exploring the city you are traveling to for the event, arrive a day early to allow for this....once the congress starts you won't have time for it
  • Stay at the hotel where the congress is being held. At the time of booking it seem better to find less expensive accomodations, however you'll quickly find it's just not worth the hassels of traveling back and forth. Once your at the event you'll definitely want the convienence of being able to go back & forth between the event and your room for whatever you need.
  • Research in advance which workshops are being offered and plan which ones you're going to attend
  • Don't forget your video camera, instructors always allow the dancers in their classes to record the patterns or technique taught in the class. If you don't film them, you'll forget what you learned within a few hours and then you just wasted your money.
  • Drink lots of water! Also keep a good supply of water in your room along with some snacks. You don't get alot of downtime at a congress so keeping hydrated is vital.

How to get started
To start, decide which congress you want to attend. You may want to consult a website like Albert Torres Events, which has a comprehensive list of congresses happening all around the globe. Any congress you want to attend should have a website to promote the event and give you information on what will be happening at the event. Be sure to research the event you're interested in attending several months in advance so you can book flights, if necessary, and hotel. Also the earlier you book the less you'll pay for your event pass....the price goes up the closer to the congress it is when you buy.
